What is your unique approach to tutoring?
When tutoring in reading, I use evidence-based practices rooted in The Science of Reading. I am patient, kind, and encouraging when working with students. I plan activities that are within students ZPD’s. Once a student has mastered a skill identified as a struggle area, I look at what skill is next on the continuum and help students master that skill. I am passionate about the work I do! Seeing the students feel proud of the skills they have accomplished is my favorite thing about tutoring.

Name: Savannah S.
Location: Arvada, CO
What subjects and levels do you tutor? Reading and writing: K-12
What is your unique approach to tutoring?
I am a certified Barton tutor, which is an Orton Gilligham-based curriculum. I think it is so important to reach kids where they are at as struggling readers, writers, and spellers and furnish them with a toolbox to help them succeed. Making students feel successful and capable is the key to any excellent tutoring system and allows students to improve their skills. I love playing learning games as a way for students to grasp complex subjects.

What is your unique approach to tutoring?
My tutoring approach is tailored to the learning style of the student I am tutoring. I like to encourage and motivate them to build their confidence in what they are learning. My favorite thing about tutoring is I get to see my growth and know that I can help them love school more and see it as a challenge they can overcome.

What subjects and levels do you tutor? Math, science, reading and writing: Pre-K and Elementary
What is your unique approach to tutoring?
I work on building rapport and trust with the children. Before I ever teach them anything, I work on capturing their heart! Once I establish that everything else is a piece of cake! My favorite thing about tutoring is helping children learn and seeing them benefit from what I'm teaching them.
Name: Hellem J.
Location: Maple Valley, WA
What subjects and levels do you tutor? Reading and writing, Brazilian Portuguese: Pre-K and Elementary
What is your unique approach to tutoring?
I’m a Paraeducator at an elementary school district nearby and a Brazilian Portuguese tutor through an online platform. I believe every child is capable of learning and giving them one a one time is a great way to prepare for the school year. So, when I’m teaching I help the student to believe that they can learn anything they want to. My favorite thing about tutoring is eeing the students confidence growing and their progress in learning as a result.

Name: Laura A.
Location: Denver, CO
What subjects and levels do you tutor? Math, reading: Elementary
What is your unique approach to tutoring?
I really try to make reading fun! The first step to learning is buy-in and the wonderful world of reading is just a door that kiddos need to want to step through. We set goals, compete against ourselves, and celebrate once we’ve achieved those goals. Making mistakes is a part of the learning process and I really push this motto. My favorite thing about tutoring is seeing the growth, the fun, and the lightbulb moments. I also love learning from children.
Name: Dean B.
Location: Brooklyn, NY
What subjects and levels do you tutor? Math, reading, writing, English, French, sports: PreK and Elementary
What is your unique approach to tutoring?
I worked as a Teacher’s Assistant several years ago when considering the pursuit of a Teaching Credential. Wanting to assist children in educational growth and achievements comes naturally to me. I focus the child on the task at hand, actively assisting them to arrive at the desired goal through their own manner of thinking, encouraging and applauding the achievements.
