Where To Find The Best KN95 Mask For Kids?

With Omicron rapidly spreading, figuring out the best protection for our kids has been prominent. Using our cloth masks, especially the cute ones with designs we buy for our kids, is no longer effective. This proves more true as we see cases increase while our kids are in their classrooms and sporting events.

The masking guidelines are changing to protect everyone, especially kids, from new variants. The new recommendation is to purchase KN95 masks for increased protection against Omicron.

In this article, I will discuss the KN95 mask for kids, how to tell if they are authentic KN95 masks, and where you can find them.

What is a KN95 Mask?

Throughout this pandemic, my family and I have used both cloth and disposable masks to prevent infection. However, these masks only provide protection against fluid transmission, not the particles.

What Is A KN95 Mask?

Studies show that KN95 masks work better because they seal around the nose and mouth to avoid inhaling particles. They fit tightly to your face and can avert at least 95% of airborne particles from infecting you and others. The KN95 masks are approved internationally, and anyone can use them.

Are Kids Able to Wear KN95 Masks?

In a nutshell, yes, kids can wear KN95 masks, but it depends on the size and fitting on their faces. An adult size KN95 mask may not fit a young or small child. Many brands create these masks specifically for children that provide the best protection.

If you’re unsure which KN95 mask is best, or need an alternative for a younger child, reach out to your pediatrician for help. You can also read about the different options for children as young as two from Aaron Collins.

Can You Reuse KN95 Masks?

As we’ve all heard, typically, you’re not supposed to reuse a KN95 mask because it’s for one-time use. However, kids can get more service out of it because they’re not working in a healthcare setting where they are constantly exposed. As long as it still fits their face and isn’t damaged, they can use it for up to five days.

When kids wear them in school, remind them to wash their hands whenever they touch surfaces, social distance when possible, and not touch their masks throughout the day. When they need to take it off for lunch, they pull it off from the straps around their ears. I still need to remind my children of these safety measures, as I’ve mentioned before!

When Do I Need to Get a New KN95 Mask?

The most significant indicator that your kids will need a new KN95 mask is when it no longer fits tightly to their face or has broken. If you notice they keep having to adjust their mask or you see a gap along the sides, it’s time for a new one.

Another sign to look for is if the KN95 mask for your kids gets wet or dirty. This signals it has been contaminated and can no longer provide the best protection. If your kids have worn the KN95 mask over five times, it’s time for a new one. The CDC recommends throwing it out because the filtration has reached its limit. Think of your filter for your furnace. It gets clogged after so long, and you need to switch it out. This is the same for the KN95 masks.

How Do I Know I Found a Genuine KN95 Mask for Kids?

I find it disturbing how many people are taking advantage of such a delicate situation for nothing other than profit. Because of this, it’s essential to know which KN95 mask is genuine and not.

KN95 masks shouldn’t have a caption saying they’re approved by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The NIOSH doesn’t endorse these due to the international certification. Be sure to research any retailer you don’t know before purchasing the KN95 mask.

If you’re questioning it, chances are they’re counterfeit. Always look through reviews to see what people are saying, and ask your pediatrician if this is the right place to look.

Where Can I Find a KN95 Mask for Kids?

When it comes to shopping, I’ve always gone straight to Amazon as they have, well, everything! I’ve even bought masks from Walmart, Target, and Old Navy to stock up and switch them out when needed. However, finding a genuine and protective KN95 mask for kids is something you should not just scroll through Amazon or any random retailer to buy.

Multicolored KN95 Mask for Kids

Looking through websites specifically for protective equipment is the best place to go. Project N95, Bona Fide Masks, and WellBefore provide a variety of legitimate KN95 masks at affordable prices. They deliver the sizes available along with the option of different colors. Even though we can’t just use the cute cloth masks with little animals or designs on them, you’re sure to find a color your kids will love!

Closing Thoughts

With new variants emerging like Omicron, it’s safe to say masks aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Reusable cloth masks, along with the disposable, aren’t providing the protection our kids need against contagious variants. Evolving variants means we, as parents, need to change the safeguards we provide for our kids to keep them healthy.

We do everything in our power to keep our kids safe and research the best products out there to help do so. Masks shouldn’t be any different. With the availability and affordability of the KN95 masks for kids, we can feel better when they’re at school or at sports that they’re more protected than ever. With different color options available, they can feel like the mask is their choice and feel good wearing them!

I have included the links to the websites where you can find the best-fitting KN95 mask for your kids. As always, if you have any questions or concerns when it comes to finding the best mask or if you’re purchasing the correct one, reach out to your kids’ pediatrician or your healthcare provider.

I have also been doing a bunch of research based off of the articles and mask nerd. I recently ordered about five different KN95 and KF94 masks for Zoe ( 1st grade) and myself. We got the Powecom KN95 which have been on every top mask list I’ve seen. The kids size fits Zoe’s face well. I like the adult one too.

You can order here but they are very delayed in shipping. I got my package from Amazon super fast but I’m still waiting on the ones from here. This company is on many lists including the mask nerd as a trusted source.

We just received the Green Supply KN95 masks today. They were also listed as recommended in a few articles. They have fun colors and prints. The traditional and updated youth size both fit Zoe really well. The adult one is a nice fit too. These might be our new fav.

For each of the kid’s masks I had to tie a knot to make it fit Zoe but she wasn’t bothered by it.
